Roadmap

Here's what you can already do on Down The Road, what we're working on right now, and what's coming next.

1926 Census Records

In progress

Adding the 1926 Census — the first census of the Irish Free State — alongside the existing 1821, 1901, and 1911 records.

Coming soon. The records were recently released on the Ireland Census Archive, and we're working on bringing them onto the site so you can search and link them the same way you already can with the other years.

Family Trees

Available now

Link people across census years and build out your family tree directly on the site.

You can upload a family tree file from another site, or build one from scratch inside a research project. People from the 1901 and 1911 censuses can be linked together so you can trace one family across both years.

Griffith's Valuation

Available now

Griffith's Valuation records complement the census data and extend coverage back to the 1840s-1860s.

You can search Griffith's by surname and county today. We're still rescraping the records for King's County (Offaly) and Queen's County (Laois) to finish off full coverage.

Historical Maps

Available now

See census data on maps so you can find exactly where your ancestors lived.

Maps are already live on district and ancestry pages, showing where households and townlands sit. Old Ordnance Survey map overlays are a follow-up.

Townland Deep Dives

Available now

Detailed pages for every townland with history, population trends, and neighbouring areas.

Every townland has its own page with background pulled from Wikipedia, links to its census records, and the wider district around it. Population trend charts are on the way.

Household Timelines

Available now

See how a household changed between 1901 and 1911 — who arrived, who left, who aged.

When a family appears in both the 1901 and 1911 censuses, we show them together on one card so you can see who was born, who died, who moved in, and how everyone aged.

Research Journals

Available now

Keep private notes and journals attached to people, places, and households.

Inside a research project you can jot down notes about each person, save your favourite records, and ask an AI assistant for help — all kept private to you.

Record Corrections

In progress

Suggest corrections to transcription errors in census records.

You can already flag a mistake on any census page. A proper way to suggest the correct spelling or detail — and for us to review and apply it — is being designed.

Advanced Search Filters

In progress

Filter by age, occupation, religion, literacy, and more — across all census years.

Typing a county, townland, or year into the search box already narrows results. Next up is a proper filter panel so you can set age ranges, occupations, or religion with a click.

Export & Sharing

In progress

Export your research as PDF or GEDCOM. Share individual records or collections with family members.

Every person and household page has a shareable link you can pass to family today. Saving your research as a PDF or as a family-tree file is on the list for next.

Immigration Records

Coming soon

Cross-reference Irish census records with emigration and ship passenger lists.

We're looking at which records to add first — likely Ellis Island, Castle Garden, and Canadian ship passenger lists.

Android & Desktop Apps

Coming soon

Native apps for Android, macOS, Windows, and Linux.

The iOS app is already available for early testers. Android and desktop apps are planned once iOS does everything the website does.

Notifications

Coming soon

Get notified when someone comments on a record you've saved, or when new features launch.

Email updates and a notification bell in the site are planned. You'll be able to choose which saved records you want to hear about.
