À propos
KILSHARVAN, a parish, in the barony of LOWER DULEEK, county of MEATH, and province of LEINSTER, 3 miles (S.) from Drogheda, on the road to the Naul; containing 487 inhabitants, of which 169 are in the hamlet, which contains about 30 houses. It comprises 2061 statute acres, of which about 40 are woodland and 100 waste: the land is of moderately good quality, and is almost equally divided between pasture and tillage. Here is plenty of limestone; and on the Nanny water are extensive bleach-works, the property of A. Armstrong, Esq., contiguous to whose tastefully laid out grounds are the picturesque ruins of the old church, the burial-ground of which is still used. The other principal seats are Mount Hanover, the residence of J. Ma-thews, Esq.; Cooper Hill, of J. Cooper, Esq.; and Annagor, of P. Mathews, Esq. It is a vicarage, in the diocese of Meath, forming part of the union of Colpe; the rectory is partly impropriate in G. Pepper, Esq., and partly appropriate to the vicarage.
The tithes amount to £110, of which £74 is payable to the impropriator, and £36 to the vicar. There is a glebe of 3 ½ acres, valued at £12 per annum.
In the R. C. divisions it forms part of the union or district of St. Mary's, Drogheda. A bequest of £10 per ann. was made by the late H. Smith, Esq., to the poor of this parish and Colpe.
